This workbook is designed to be used in conjunction with A Woman's Way through the Twelve Steps Facilitator Guide in groups led by facilitators or by women on their own who seek to explore A Woman's Way through the Twelve Steps more fully. Experiential exercises and journaling activities deepen and extend readers' understanding of the lessons taught in the book while empowering women, including LGBTQ+ individuals, to take ownership of their recovery by documenting their growth and recovery process in a personally meaningful way.
Unlike many interpretations of the Twelve Steps for women, this workbook uses the original language, preserving its spirit and focusing attention on its healing message. Stephanie S. Covington guides women and gender-expansive people to reinterpret the Steps to support their own recovery. "When we look inside ourselves and reframe the original wording in the way that works best for us, each of us, individually, can discover the meaning for ourselves," she writes in A Woman's Way through the Twelve Steps. In sections devoted to each of the Steps, Covington blends narrative, guided imagery exercises, and self-assessment questions focused on how women experience addiction and recovery.
Women's recovery can differ from men's, and each person's recovery is in many ways unique. That's why Dr. Stephanie S. Covington has designed the A Women's Way Through the Twelve Steps Workbook to help women and gender-expansive people each find their own path.
